Back in July 2015, Trove was launched.
I saw it on Steam the next day and decided to try it out - not really expecting much. Well instead, I was impressed with the game and decided to make it where I spent most of my time.
The following day I reached the quest that required me to join a club, and as I've always had some anxiety talking to random people, I didn't want to just shout in global. So I made a club. This club.
At first there were just a couple of friends who had started to play at the same time, and we slowly built up the club world, farming that illusive Infinium as it was so rare back in the day, hunting through ubers 1 and 2!
Slowly but surely we gained more members and developed a really friendly, inclusive and welcoming environment where people weren't judged on their progress or aptitude with the game. They weren't judged on their background or real life situations but instead had a home to log onto whenever they wished, and had some nice people to chat with. To this day some of those first members are still with the club (including our leadersheep; Ajo, Woo and Voltrabbit!)
As the club world grew thanks to the huge amount of spare time I had to put into building, as well as the creative influences in the club, and as the member count grew, so did our influence in the Trove community. We hosted several large, public events around Christmas 2015 which drew praise and recognition from the developers. We even had mentions in a Trove article as well as one written about the club for Trove's 1 year anniversary!
We took on MoP as a club, forming massive farming groups through the new lands on a regular basis and through Ultra mode ST runs - where we don't just do it for the loots, but for the aspect of running with friends and having fun. Even though the content has slowed in Trove, and the community is smaller nowadays, the club's core community hasn't suffered.
Through the whole life of the game, and club, our enduring strength has been that core of the community. We have many long standing members who have become friends over the months. In fact, a lot of those people who don't play the game anymore still visit us on Discord! Every new member who joins us is given the same warm welcome and opportunity to get involved in this community.
From my personal perspective, I'm very proud in the community that I founded and help grow, long may it continue.
Sheepscuit (previously Sheepski and Shmeeps).
